Miguel Moreira da Silva

Miguel Moreira da Silva is the Managing Partner of Wiimer, an AI and data-analytics company he founded to help energy, water, and industrial utilities extract more value from their infrastructure. He also serves as President of ANJE's General Assembly and is an invited professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, where he lectures on Power Systems Engineering. He holds a PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems from the MIT Portugal Program at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP), and is a chartered Electrical and Computer Engineer. Before founding Wiimer, he held senior management roles at REN (Portugal's power and gas grid operator) and Sonae MC, where he built out analytics, R&D and strategic planning functions using AI and big data. He was named one of the World Energy Council's 100 "Future Energy Leaders" in 2013, and joined the Global Panel of the MIT Technology Review in 2019. He's also a published author — "Power and Gas Asset Management: Regulation, Planning and Operation of Digital Energy Systems" (Springer) — and a regular columnist for Jornal Económico on AI, sustainability and energy innovation.
